Assemblies to complete tenure, says Babar Awan
ATTOCK: Present assemblies will complete their tenure, those talking of mid-term and short-term elections living in fool paradise. President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gilani have accepted all the challenges and will steer the country out of present crises. Federal Minister for Law and Preliminary Affairs Dr Babar Awan said this while addressing an open kutchery here at Jinnah Hall, Monday.

PPP Central Leader and former Senator Malik Hakmeen Khan, Advocate Syed Azmat Ali Bokhari, Attock district PPP president Sher Afzal Khan, secretary general Dr Naeem Awan, additional secretary general Waqar Awan and a large number of party activists were also present on the occasion.

Dr Babar Awan said that those walking with the crutches of lawyers’ moment could never be successful. He said, President Asif Ali Zardari and PM Yousaf Raza Gilani have accepted all the challenges confronting the country and constituted government in Centre and in all the provinces taking along all the political parties and this was the reason that JUI, MQM and ANP have been given representation.

Dr Awan said, ÒWe have sacrificed for democracy and would allow no one to blackmail and hijack the democratic government. He said it happened for the first time while constituting a government no horse-trading was done and the credit goes to PPP Co-chairman Asif Ali Zardari. He said, ÒWe are following the vision of Zulfikar Ali Bhutto and Benazir Bhutto and have vowed that during five years stability of the country would be ensured and after five years transparent, free and fair elections would be held. He claimed that in the forthcoming Senate elections PPP would be successful and the election of Senate chairman would prove last nail in the coffin of the remnants of dictatorship.

He alleged that during the Musharraf government Dr A Q Khan and judges of superior courts were sent behind the bars but the PPP government set them free. The federal minister claimed that when PPP took over the reigns of the government the economy was in shambles but now we have US $12 billion reserves. PPP does not want to strengthen personalities but institutions.

He said, those considering Pakistan a failed state were living in fools paradise and those political parties, which did not take part in general elections to wait for five years and not to make hue and cry. He said PPP has its roots in the public, ÒWe do not believe in the politics of revenge and avenge and the first time that defence budget was presented in the parlimant. The Federal Minister Dr Babar Awan listened to the problems of the people and gave orders to the authorities concerned for solution those problems. Advocate Syed Azmat Ali Bokhari also spoke on the occasion.
