ATTOCK: Members of Tehsil Council Attock from opposition benches have
expressed reservations about approval of Attock's Annual Development
Programme (ADP) without their consent in violation of rules of business
of local bodies Ordinance. In a session held here under the
chairmanship of Convener Shamim Khan, the members, including Nabeela
Mushtaq, Sheikh Israr and Iqbal Khan, complained that the Tehsil
Municipal Administration (TMA) approved the development projects for
Attock tehsil without seeking their consent. They demanded that a
special session should be convened after three days to discuss the
issue in detail. In response to the complaints, Tehsil Nazim Qazi
Khalid Mehmood said that work orders of the uplift schemes would not be
issued unless the members felt satisfied. However, he stressed that the
members should trust him, claiming he would never go against their
interest. The public representatives also pointed out those contracts
were being awarded on 'pick and choose basis' instead of open
competitions, which was again a violation of the law. They also called
for shifting the taxi stand from near the Liaquat Ali Khan Hockey
Stadium, as the drivers were not paying parking fee to the TMA. Some
members also alleged that revenue officials (Patwaris) were illegally
charging heavy fee for issuing Fard (land ownership certificate),
registration of mutation, and other revenue affairs. They said the fee
schedule should be displayed at the Halqa Patwar offices for the
facilitation of people.
