ATTOCK: A three-member Supreme Court (SC) bench on Thursday served notices on Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) MNA from NA-57, Attock, Sheikh Aftab and the respective district returning officer (DRO) to appear before it on June 9.
The bench, which consisted of Chief Justice Abdul Hameed Dogar, Justice Ijazul Hassan and Justice Chaudhry Ejaz Yousaf, issued notices while hearing an election plea by Sheikh Aftab’s rival and former state minister Malik Amin Aslam Khan.
The petitioner’s lawyer Dr Babar Awan maintained that his client had unofficially won the election, but he was later declared unsuccessful in the consolidated results with a margin of 299 votes.
He said that the DRO had stated in the results that 7,000 rejected votes of 24 polling stations of the constituency were missing and Malik Amin Aslam had lost the poll with a margin of 336 votes.
Dr Awan said that his client had not lost the election and the result was rigged. He said that the recounting process under Rule 36 of Electoral Laws was to be conducted for the whole votes, but it didn’t.
