In a talk show at Geo TV, Ali Ahmed Kurd Advocate said that he did mistake by boycotting general elections and withdrawing his candidature for contesting National Assembly seat. Kurd is one of key leaders of lawyers' movement for restoration of judiciary and strengthening real democracy in the country. He showed repentance over his missing chance to enter National Assembly where he could have fought well for pleading his cause of bringing back deposed judges. It was astonishing for me for the following reasons. First one is that key leaders reached a consensus that boycotting election would cause maximum pressure on government to restore judiciary. They called upon political parties to boycott elections. Major parties rejected their call. Ahsan and Kurd with many more lawyers, in violation of their own call filed nomination papers. Later both leaders withdrew their nomination papers to evade criticism. Had they not withdrawn their candidature they would have lost their popularity and respect among the lawyers and civil society as heroes as they are recognized and acknowledged among the public. Therefore Kurd Sahib should not say that boycotting elections was his mistake. Second thing is that in our main stream political parties, there is no democracy and the parties are run by their respective leaders like dictators. Kurd and Ahsen are also part of them. I would request them to initiate some good measures to promote democracy in their party as well so that persons from the middle class can get chance to emerge as leaders on merits. Otherwise this country and its people would remain on the mercy of landlords, Pirs, Makhdooms, Sardars, Jagirdars and Khans whose forefathers always preferred to side with rulers and who always treated aboriginal of our soil like slaves. The same type of leaders is still holding monopoly over politics because of wealth they had gathered through exploitative means. Kurd should feel proud of boycotting elections for better cause. To gain power should not be the aim. One should fight for liberating nation from exploitative forces. Main purpose of lawyers' movement is the same.

Key leaders should not regret over their boycott of elections. If they regret today they will regret tomorrow for runnning the movement. They should not do so. The movement, if leaders are not purchased will meet its logical end that would be positive.
