Dear editor,
Recently, a friend of mine sent me a picture that dropped my jaw in awe! The picture caught an unescorted
flatbed truck transporting very expensive precious cargo (militarily) considered highly sensitive and invaluable in the wrong hands. The picture shows at least half a dozen indigenously produced (apparently) Hatf-1 missiles in open view. Evidently, only a couple of nylon straps were keeping the missiles from falling off the truck.
What would be the price tag if a piece of debris would damage a missile or two? Imagine the waste of life and property caused due to the missiles falling off if the truck flips over in an accident, or the missiles darting off if the truck is forced to come to a hard stop. What would be the cost to clean the environmental damage caused by the highly toxic solid-propellants of the missiles? To a potential terrorist hijacking such a heaven-sent booty would be a child’s play, which at minimum, would present them with an unfathomable propaganda coup, and at maximum can result in a bloody attack potentially killing hundreds. Even worst, it will give the West the final nail to hammer in the coffin of the Pakistan's inability to secure its Weapons of Mass Destruction (WMD).
How can we trust the competence of officials who are entrusted with the security of Pakistani WMDs is anybody's guess?
Sincerely,
Adnan Gill
