Political parties participation in upcoming elections will approve unconstitutional and illegal measures of Musharraf he took on November 3 and it would badly affect the struggle for the independence of the judiciary. Lawyers requested political parties to boycott elections for supporting their struggle. MMA President Qazi Hussain Ahmed, PTI Chairman Imran Khan, PKMA President Mahmood Khan Achakzai and BNP leader Mir Hasil Bezanjio responded to the appeal of lawyers and decided to boycott elections. They did not file nomination papers of their candidates. Rest of the parties gave green signal to their ticket holders to file nomination papers and contest the elections who are now running campaigns in full swing. A considerable number of lawyers affiliated with these parties also ignored the request of Pakistan Bar Council and deposited nomination papers for contesting elections.
Lawyers' leaders were very aggressive to cancel membership of advocates who were little reluctant to participate in lawyers' movement. Even now such threats are passed to lawyers that if they do not boycott courts on their call, their licenses would be cancelled. But these leaders have been silent against lawyers who have landed in the field to contest elections. Lawyers' leadership is urged to cancel membership of all those lawyers who in defiance of Pakistan Bar Council appeal are contesting elections. In addition to that all lawyers should join the parties of those leaders who supported lawyers' movement and suffered with them atrocities of the rulers. Qazi Hussain Ahmed, Imran Khan, Achakzai and Bezanjio are great leaders who love national interest. Their stand is heroic. They deserve appreciation from the lawyers and civil society. May God succeed them in their noble mission? The other parties' first priority is to enter power corridor for power lust.

30-12-2007 16:39, , Guest I am glad to know that Azmat Bukhari, a brother Attocky, belonging to a respectable Syed family of Boota village, has been nominated by the PPP for election to the National Assembly. He faces a big challenge by other well-trenched canidates, especially by that of ML(Q), the daughter of the District Naazim of Attock. But I would remind Attokies that she is the one who had surrendered her seat for election of that nincompoop, Shoukat Aziz, an alien of unknown antecedents, to deprive our district representation in the NA, and to Punjab, the Premiership of Pakistan. She may sell us again. ![]()
