FFC seals flour mill in Attock for illegal transportation
ATTOCK: The Federal Food Committee (FFC) has sealed a flour mill in Attock for illegally transporting wheat flour.
FFC Chairman Lt-Gen (Retd) Farooq Ahmed Khan, without disclosing the name of the owner of the flour mill, said the mill was sealed and its quota suspended. The FFC also slapped a fine on the mill. Sharing another sad episode of the quality and standard of food items, the chairman said that there were no minimum standards with the Pakistan Standard and Quality Control Authority (PSQCA).
“We have asked them to provide a list of food items to be included in the mandatory list to ensure food quality in the market,” he added. The chairman said the monitoring and regulation of wheat flour movement at the borders would continue in order to stabilise its prices in affected areas.
Briefing mediamen about decisions of the committee, he said the prices of flour in three provinces were stable while the situation in some parts of the NWFP was not comfortable.
“Grain is touching the price of gold,” he said adding that the commodity price in the country is not competitive one among the regional countries, however, he said FFC had no input in the announcement of wheat procurement price.
He also anticipated low strategic reserves for the coming year because the government had revised its procurement target from 7 million tonnes to 5 million tonnes. Giving larger share to the private sector in wheat procurement would also lead to manipulation like they did this year, he added. About the edible oil, the chairman said: “We are discussing the matter with the stakeholders and working out strategy for harmonization of commodity prices rather linking it with the international one.”
