| Emergency / Soft Image? Or bad? |

Martial Law or Emergency is not new for the people of Pakistan; unfortunately, in the past sixty years after our freedom from “British Rule” there were non-democratic period longer than democratic and as a nation we could not adopt and built up democratic traditions in our country.
This is the first time in our history that in the response of “Emergency Plus” or “Minus Martial Law” a large number of Judges of the Supreme Court and High Courts did not take their oaths under the new PCO. With the resistance of all these honourable judges they proved that they believe in the supremacy of constitution and rule of law. Definitely, they reserved remarkable place and golden words in the history for themselves but it is the time for international community, civil society, political parties and workers, lawyers and people of Pakistan to play an effective role for the judges to be reinstated.
Although the situation was worse for the independent journalists and civil society in the country for a long time but these days the judiciary, lawyers, media persons and members of the civil society are facing hardships, which is presenting a very rough and bad image on our country in front of the international community.
The attitude of police persons and other law enforcement agencies towards the demonstrators is really very brutal and cruel which shows that as a nation we have no morals, manners and etiquettes. There is no way in the civilised society that any body can treat even the animals like this, this is the time to think about where we stand?
This is the 21st century and the whole world changed in a global village. After this how can we increase our trade with other countries? And how our banker-turned politician Prime Minister can ask the foreigners to come there for investments? How overseas Pakistanis can build up an image of our country? Can our sitting government have answers for these questions? and dozens more like these?
The sitting government, which is very famous at taking u-turns in all the important issues, were very much concerned (verbally) to build up a positive image of the country at international level, compete his record in this regard and exposed very badly through out the whole world.
The judges who did not take the oath under the new PCO, lawyers and journalists community and civil society are rendering a remarkable role for the democracy and rule of law. It is the time for all the political parties to unite and strengthens their powers on one agenda for the supremacy of the constitution and the rule of law. No body should be above the law, even if it is “minus” or “plus” but the image can be soft and very…positive.
