M1 to be opened for all kinds of traffic soon

ATTOCK: President General Pervez Musharraf will inaugurate Peshawar-Islamabad Motorway Project M-1 for all kinds of traffic very soon, said M-1 General Manager Chaudhery Mujeeb Qadir while talking to reporters.

The National Highway Authority (NHA) has completed the project with the cost of Rs 15 billion, he said, adding that the construction work on the 154 km long road started in 2002 and first phase of Islamabad-Burhan was opened for all kinds of traffic in 2005. Qadir said the 154 km long road has 27 small bridges, three big bridges on Kabul, Indus and Harro rivers.

Three road crosses over rail bridges at Fathejhang, Burhan and Rashaki were constructed for smooth traveling, he added. “U-turn is available after every 10 kilometres on the motorway and it has 18 flyovers, 100 underpasses, 571 culverts, and service areas will be provided on both sides of the motorway for rest and dining of commuters”, he said. Qadir said that eight interchanges were also constructed at Fathejang, Bahatar, Burhan, Ghourghushti (Chach area), Rashaki, Swabi, Charsadda and Peshawar for the convenience of the passengers. The project has been constructed according to the international standard, he added.
