The National Commission for Human Development (NCHD) has trained 2.2 million women to prepare homemade oral rehydration solution (ORS) in Punjab, as part of its national ORS campaign.
NCHD has completed this campaign in Rahim Yar Khan, Rajan Pur, Attock and Narowal. The campaign’s objective is to train at least one woman in every household to prepare homemade ORS. Timely intervention in diseases and the timely administration of ORS to a diarrhoea patient saves lives, especially among young children. Child deaths due to diarrhoea could be prevented easily in households by adopting simple prevention methods.
NCHD is striving to reduce deaths resulting from diarrhoeal diseases by training women to recognise diarrhoea, its complications, dehydration, diarrhoea prevention methods and ORS administration and preparation by mixing salt, sugar and water. The ORS campaign is in progress in various districts of Punjab, Muzaffergarh and Layyah. NCHD has also provided ORS training charts, printed in local languages and in pictorial forms, to all households in these districts.
