Fact-finding report on Lal Masjid massacre
MMA’s fact-finding commission of the Jamia Hafsa/Lal Masjid massacre held President Pervez Musharraf, Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz, former DG Rangers Hussain Mehdi, Corps Commander Rawalpindi Lt-Gen Tariq Majeed, Interior Minister Aftab Sherpao, interior secretary, IG Islamabad, commissioner and deputy commissioner Islamabad and other officials responsible for thousands of deaths in Jamia Hafsa/Lal Masjid.
The fact-finding commission in its final report has demanded all the above mentioned accused should be court martialled under Military Act for the crime of making the army an object of public hatred through uncalled for and merciless killing of women, children and civilians.
This was stated by Punjab MMA President Liaqat Baloch and head of the fact-finding mission Dr Farid Paracha while addressing a press conference Wednesday.
They said under the directives of Supreme Court, the Islamabad administration has registered cases against unidentified accused instead of real accused, which amounted to contempt of court. They warned that if cases were not registered against the real accused then MMA would take legal course to get those cases registered.
Baloch said thousands of innocent women, children, pedestrians and journalists were killed in the operation but the government concealed the actual number of deaths by disallowing the media access to the scene. He said even if the figures of government claims of those inside and those who surrendered and killed were calculated then more than 1,000 people were still found to be missing. He said the loss of property, building and furniture of the institution, and the personal belongings of the students were estimated to be over Rs 550 million, while the so-called arms and ammunition which government claimed to have recovered from Jamia Hafsa, was rejected by the arms experts on purely technical reasons as manipulated and fake.
Dr Farid Paracha demanded that a judicial commission should be immediately constituted comprising Supreme Court judges for fact-finding of the Jamia Hafsa massacre.
He also demanded that political role of intelligence agencies should be eliminated and they should be made answerable to judiciary and parliament. He said Jamia Hafsa should be constructed as per the orders of Supreme Court.
He requested the Supreme Court to issue orders to immediately register FIRs against the abovementioned accused under sections 166, 295, 295A, 295B, 300, 302, 332 to 337, 339, 341 to 343 PPC, and sections 4, 5, 6, 7 Anti-Terrorists Act, and Section 6 of high treason, and violations of Articles of 9, 10, 14 to 16, 20, 22, 24, 26 and 31 of the Constitution.
