PHA selecting land for low-income housing
FATEHJANG: The Pakistan Housing Authority (PHA) has started selecting land required to build 250,000 flats nationwide to provide shelter to low-income groups, said official sources on Tuesday.
The cabinet approved the housing scheme a few months ago and the PHA has obtained responses from landowners from federal and provincial capitals expect from Karachi. The PHA had sought an expression of interest from landowners for the development of the housing schemes. Forty two landowners from Rawalpindi have shown interest in providing land and 750 acres of land are under consideration near Fateh Jang.uld be allotted houses on easy instalments.
The PHA has already sought applications from government employees from grade 1 to 16, as it had planned to build 37,000 flats for them. In the first phase, the government will build 37,000 flats for its employees and a pilot project consisting of 1,000 flats will be launched in Sector G in Islamabad.
The authority is awaiting the release of Rs 500 million to expedite work on the launch of the housing scheme. Sources said the government was using the same strategy adopted by former prime minister Nawaz Sharif.
