Pakistan's former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif was taken into police custody just hours after his arrival at the airport in Islamabad Monday where authorities held Sharif until he could be deported on a flight to Saudi Arabia.

Sharif was arrested on corruption charges just three hours after returning to Pakistan on a flight this morning from London.  An hour later, the ex-PM was placed on a flight to Saudi Arabia and deported once again.  Sharif had returned to Pakitan from exile after a military coup led be General Pervez Musharraf in 1999 to face Musharraf in the upcoming elections, but under an agreement Sharif had made with President Musharraf, he had agreed to not return to Pakistan for at least 10 years.  The Pakistan Supreme Court had ruled earlier that the letter had no legal baring on whether or not Sharif could return to his homeland, but when he decided to brave Musharraf's earlier warnings not to break his deal he was arrested and again deported.

GEO television showed Sharif supporters clashing with police in Islamabad after his arrest.  Sharif supporters also demonstrated in nearby Rawalpindi where police were forced to use tear gas to disperse the angry crowd.  In Attock, a city about 60 miles north of the Pakistani Capital, pro-Sharif supporters became violent and a shootout developed between demonstrators and police with two policemen wounded in the confrontation, GEO TV reports.

A spokesman for Sharif's Pakistan Muslim League said the political group would challenge Sharif's deportation in Court.  Also, the Muslim League Party is said to be organizing demonstrations nationwide tomorrow against Musharraf's move in turning Sharif away when he arrived from London.
