| Attock my native city? (Part-2) |

Now I will tell you my personal experience. After the death of my father I had to go to many government offices for the settlement of his dues. The procedure was that all types of cases were initiated from the district offices in Attock and were finalized in the provincial offices in Lahore. Thanks to President Musharraf’s devised District Government System because before that same types of cases were initialized from divisional offices in Rawalpindi which means that you have to go to Rawalpindi for each case which creates more complications. In persuing this matter, I had to go to offices where I had never been before. I met people I had not known before. All I had to do was to tell them that I was Prof. Ejaz Qureshi’s son. The other person would literally get up and do my work on priority. Such was the respect and reputation he gained in Attock.
I don’t agree with my relatives especially first cousins who say that Attock is a backward city and you can’t do anything living here, become cut off from the family and have to move to big cities for education and things like that. I say to them that every place has it’s own advantages and disadvantages. But the important thing is whether you can cope with the disadvantages easily. If you don’t find something you need in Attock and you have to go to Rawalpindi for that, that doesn’t matter. It’s only one and a half hour away. But you should look at those daily utility things which you can get so easily in Attock. Furthermore among the small cities of Pakistan, Attock is far better than many others.
All my Aunts (Khala) come to Attock whenever they get a chance and they feel very happy here. I ask my cousins when they criticise Attock so much as to why they come here often? The reason is that all of us have a very strong association with Attock. The difference is of the worth we give to that association.
As I wrote earlier that many people have made Attock their second native city. When someone asks me where do you belong to my immediate answer is Attock. The reason being that I have spent a major portion of my life in Attock. I have received nine years of education in Attock. All of our personal documents are registered in Attock. And most of all we have a permanent home in Attock.
But the question is which one is my native city? My grandfather migrated from India. He lived in Wah Cantt, Pindighep, UAE and many other places but most of the time in Rawalpindi. He had no property in Rawalpindi. No permanent home. He lived here and there in different houses on rent. Keeping this in view, my native city is perhaps Rawalpindi where my grandfather and my father spent a lot of time. But what if I have to go to any office in Rawalpindi? I would be a complete stranger there.
But my second native city is very clearly defined. None other than Attock City.
