ATTOCK: Talking to the Attock district Nazim, Major (Retd) Tahir Sadiq, at the Prime Minister’s House, Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz said the system of local governments has strengthened the masses by facilitating the development process at all levels and resolution of their issues. The government would continue to promote this process even further, he added.
The prime minister said the unprecedented level of progress was made possible by the economic strength achieved by the country as well as the extended outreach to the masses through the system of local governments.
The Nazim apprised the prime minister of the progress on various development projects under way in the area, including the construction of a new Islamabad airport, an industrial estate, schools, hospitals and many other projects for provision of electricity, water and gas to the people.
He said the present democratic government of the Pakistan Muslim League and allied parties would complete its term for the first time in the country’s history and it would help strengthen democratic institutions. Shaukat said continuity and consistency of policies ensures amplified development of the country. “The socio-economic development also raised Pakistan’s stature in the world,” he added.He said, “Pakistan Muslim League struggled for the creation of Pakistan for the Muslims of the subcontinent and it is the party that would put Pakistan on the bright path of development and prosperity.
Talking to Minister of State for Information & Broadcasting Tariq Azim, Minister of State for Finance Omar Ayub Khan and President PML Islamabad Dr Muhammad Amjad, who called on him here on Sunday, Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz has said a number of development projects, including construction of dams, roads, electricity generation and gas supply, would be initiated under the Public Sector Development Programme (PSDP).
The prime minister said the Budget 2007-08 is relief-oriented, focusing on helping the people, subsidising essential commodities, increasing salaries/pensions and a record allocation of Rs 747 billion for the PSDP.
He said the government has been able to initiate development projects because of the economic strength achieved through the adoption of revolutionary economic policies in the recent years. “By the grace of Almighty Allah, Pakistan has ample resources to meet its development related demands,” he added.
