Atta smuggling bids foiled, heavy quantity of wheat, flour recovered
ATTOCK: Different smuggling bids were foiled by Food department and Attock police while some 121,280 kilogram wheat and 65,400 kg flour was recovered.
Talking to APP, Executive District Officer Revenue Mahmood-ul-Hassan Zia said that different attempts to smuggle wheat and flour were foiled and trucks bearing registration numbers Swat-C1135, Swat-C1781, GTL-450, PKJ-237, JKM-914, GTA-3155, P-3250 and PZ-2799 were seized in this connection.
In various raids, made on Friday night, six trucks in which wheat and flour was being smuggled to NWFP from Punjab through G.T.Road, were seized by Food departed and police.
Eight drivers namely Hayat ullah, Amjid Ali, Muhammad Sharif Khan, Ismail, Sher Ali, Deen Muhammad, Sajjad Ahmed and Abdul Shakoor have also been arrested.
Police have registered cases in this regard and started further investigation.
Local bodies system has empowered people: Shaukat Aziz
ATTOCK: Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz on Saturday said the local bodies system has empowered the people at the grassroots level, thus adding confidence to generate development activities as per their needs. He was talking to District Nazim Attock, Maj ® Tahir Sadiq, who called on him here at the Prime Minister House this afternoon. The Prime Minister said that the local bodies system has been designed to facilitate the solution of people’s problems and providing them basic facilities and necessities of life at their doorstep.
Nazim Attock updated the Prime Minister about several development projects relating to the provision of electricity, water, gas, education, health facilities and construction of roads, which he added has brought about a qualitative improvement in the lives of common people in the district.
Maj ® Tahir Sadiq said that Attock is an agricultural area and the district government has taken several initiatives including the development of livestock to increase the income of the farming community.
ATTOCK: Pakistan Railways has launched "Electronic Ticketing Service"(ETS) at Attock Railway Station and now people would be able to get tickets for any Railway Station and return tickets. This was stated by Sher Muhammad spokesman of Pak Railway at Attock Railway Station while talking to The Nation. He said that by launching ETS people would be able to get railway tickets from Attock Railway Station to any other railway station at any time and may reserve their seats also. He said that ETS was available for all the trains running throughout the country. He said that by introducing ETS people would be able to save their precious time and money as they had not to travel to any other city for getting railway tickets.
HAZRO: The Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) has nearly finalised its list of MNAs and MPAs from Punjab who will be interviewed by the party’s parliamentary board, headed by Benazir Bhutto, throughout the next week in London.
In Attock, Sardar Saleem Haider and Sheikh Ahsan were finalised for MNAs.
JAND: President Pakistan Tehreek-e-Istiqlal (TIP) Rehmat Khan Wardag said the short order by the Supreme Court restoring the Chief Justice is the supremacy of law and constitution of the country. Talking to APP here Saturday he said the credit goes to the government that it provided opportunities for stability of democratic institutions and freedom of media which find no example in the past.
Wardag said there was no such example available and this verdict would strengthen the belief of the people in judiciary.
He said that President General Pervez Musharraf and Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz had honored the verdict which shows their honor and belief in supremacy of judiciary.
The TIP Chief said that from the very first day it was the stance of Pakistan Tehreek-e-istiqlal that reference against the Chief Justice should not be taken back but verdict and opinion be given.
He said and now it is the responsibility of the judiciary to play its role to take advantage of this impartial environment to the people.
