| Lawyers hold strike against police case | | | |
| Written by admin | | Monday, 28 January 2008 | ATTOCK: Lawyers here on Tuesday observed strike against registration of a police case against about 100 members of the district bar association for holding a rally against the government in the city on Saturday.
The lawyers also held a protest rally from district bar to the police headquarters. The rally participants were chanting slogans against the government and the police. However, the protesting lawyers later dispersed peacefully.
The police had taken strict security measures and were deployed at the main gate of the district bar and other gates of the katchery to confine the protesters inside the building.
Senior lawyers including Rana Afsar Ali khan, Sheikh Ahsanuddin, Syed Tahir Bukhari, Sadaqat Ali Khan and Waqar Azeem Saddique said lawyers were being harassed through the police to stop them from their ongoing struggle for restoration of deposed judges and supremacy of the constitution. Arrests and registration of cases would not restrict our countrywide movement, they added. They asked the rulers to avoid creating confrontation in the country which was already facing serious political and judicial crises.
They said lawyers of the district would fully participate in the Youm-i-Iftikhar on January 31 in the federal capital to express solidarity with the deposed chief justice of Pakistan. | | GPOs to remain open on Sundays | | | |
| Written by admin | | Monday, 28 January 2008 | Fatehjang: Director General Pakistan Post Office Arshad Khan has directed GPOs across the country to remain open on Sundays and on official holidays to facilitate the public.
According to a notification issued by DG Pakistan GPOs, all GPOs would remain open from 8 am to 4 pm on Sundays and official holidays.
The DG said this step has been taken by the authorities for convenience of the people.
Now people would be able to purchase tickets, deposit parcels, buy postal orders and send their letters on these days.
The citizens have termed the decision a positive step.

| Written by admin | | Friday, 25 January 2008 | ATTOCK: Caretaker Federal Minister for Environment and Local Government Syed Wajid Hussain Bokhari said the sole purpose of visit of President Pervez Musharraf to different countries is to remove misconceptions about Pakistan and to counter the propaganda against it.
While talking to APP here Sunday, he said during the visit President Musharraf will make people and foreign governments aware of the actual situation in Pakistan.
He said the caretaker government will hold the elections according to schedule.
The Minister said the government is going to take strict action against those responsible for the recent attacks.
He said a policy was on the anvil to overcome environmental pollution in Islamabad by shifting stone crushing machines installed in its surroundings.
He informed that Rs. 12 billion have been allocated for the development of forest sector.
During the spring tree plantation campaign 86 million saplings will be planted.
He warned of strict action against those responsible for deforestation.
To a question, Wajid Bokhari said 10 million energy saver bulbs would be provided to public and private sectors at a cost of Rs one billion to help save 500 megawatts of electricity every year.
He said construction of Kalabagh dam was important to the country and a committee has been formed for coordination between the four provinces on this issue. | | Four rockets hit Kamra city | | | |
| Written by admin | | Wednesday, 16 January 2008 | ATTOCK: Unknown miscreants fired four rockets causing partial damage to a government building in Kamra city on Thursday. No casualties were reported.
According to District Police Officer (DPO) Tariq Hanif Joyia at 5 a.m some miscreants fired four rockets on Kamra city from unidentified locations, which hit different areas of the city. One of the rockets fell near Qatba village, another near Aeronautical Complex and two hit a government building resultantly causing some damage to it.
Police said these rockets were fired from a range of five to eight kilometres. Police have cordoned off the area and started investigation.

| Written by admin | | Monday, 14 January 2008 | ATTOCK: European Election Observation Mission and a delegation of Pakistani observers Tuesday visited Attock to observe electoral process in the district. The observers also heard complaints of district nazim’s intervention in electoral process.
A delegation of Pakistani observers ‘Citizen Group’ held meetings with district nazim Attock and election candidates, Geo TV reported.
A former minister Amin Aslam and other candidates presented their evidences of the district nazim’s alleged interference in the electoral process.
The candidates told that the district nazim has removed the election hoardings and banners in support of his brother in law Pervaiz Elahi, daughter Eman and his son in law before arrival of the observers in Attock. They also presented proofs to back their claims.
District Nazim Tahir Sadiq later talking to the media said his supporters had mounted election banners and hoardings with his pictures in the town, however he has ordered removal of these banners and hoardings.
European Union observers also visited Attock and held meetings with the district nazim and election officials to inquire about the electoral process in the district.

| Written by admin | | Friday, 04 January 2008 | ATTOCK: In another blow to PML-Q candidates, Union Council Nazims, councillors and their hundreds of supporters announced that they would support PPP candidate Shahan Malik for Punjab provincial assembly seat PP-15 during the upcoming elections.
Those who pledged support to Shahan Malik included UC Nazim Sardar Waheed Khan, Nazim UC I Malik Tahir Awan, Nazim UC II Rana Shaukat Ali and councillors Malik Zahid, Haji Ghulam Sarwar, Shehzad, Malik Sher Ahmad, Abid Hanif and woman councillor Saima. While addressing a press conference, Nazim Sardar Waheed, who has been a close ally of District Nazim Attock Tahir Sadiq, criticised the policies of PML- Q. He said he was parting ways with the PML-Q due to differences over policies.

| Written by admin | | Wednesday, 02 January 2008 | JAND: The Thal Express which was operating between Rawalpindi and Multan via Attock, Jand and Mianwali has been suspended till further orders because of shortage of bogies, said a Pakistan Railways official.
According to the controller trains, Thal Express service would be restored after the shortage of bogies is met.
He further said that another rail car which used to run between Attock and Rawalpindi has also been suspended because of the same reason.
Hundreds of passengers and commuters who were travelling by these trains would face inconvenience. | |
