EC appoints DRO, RO, ARO for upcoming general electionsPDF Print E-mail

 ATTOCK: Election Commission has appointed District Returning Officers (DRO), Returning Officers (RO) and Assistant Returning Officers (ARO) for the upcoming general elections in district Attock for three national and five provincial assembly constituencies.

According to the notification, District and Session, Judge Attock, M. Tariq Abbassi has been appointed as District Returning Officer while Additional Session Judges, Abdul Haq for Na-57, Muhammad Rafiqe for NA-58 and Habibullah Amir were appointed as Returning Officers.

Civil Judges, Amir Mukhtar Gondal, Usman Serwer and Jahangir Ali Gondal have been appointed as Assistant Returning Officers for these constituencies respectively.

ATTOCK: Pakistan Telecommunication Limited (PTCL) has introduced its Internet service facility for all landline telephone subscribers in Attock after installing the required equipment and upgrading the main telephone exchange. 

The DE of the PTCL Attock division, Sheikh Zahoor Ahmed, said the bill for the Internet facility would be included in the monthly telephone bill of the subscribers. {mosimage}

In addition to the new dial-up facility, he said 3,400 DSL connections had also been approved. He also informed that 26 camps had been set- up, in various areas last month, to provide telephone connections through an easy procedure.

Similar camps will also be setup at different areas of the division, including Attock city, Hazro, Shadikhan, Ghorghusti, Hattain, Basal, Jand, Pindigheb, FatehJhang, he added.

ATTOCK: The 14th Convocation of COMSATS Institute of Information Technology (CIIT) was held here{mosimage} at the institute’s Attock Campus, awarding medals and degrees to the graduating students.

Rector CIIT Dr Syed Muhammad Junaid Zaidi was the chief guest of the ceremony who felicitated the  graduating students and termed their accomplishment as a result of the joined efforts of their teachers and parents. He said that progress of a country could only be achieved by making quality investment in the education sector.

Officials in Pakistan Punjab estimated that more than 15,000 Sikhs are likely to visit the sacred{mosimage} Gurdwara Nankana Sahib from across the globe during November to celebrate the Parkash Divas of Guru Nanak Dev Ji, the first Guru of the Sikhs.

According to the Evacuee Trust Property Board deputy administrator, Syed Faraz Abbas, more than 15,000 Sikhs from India, Afghanistan, Dubai, Iran, Pakistan,  Europe, and the Americas would participate in the Gurpurab celebrations. The official stated that  the government has made arrangements to help the visiters out in immigration, boarding, lodging and security.

The visiting sangat is scheduled to stay at Nankana Sahib until November 24th, and depart for Punja Sahib, Hassan Abdal, and Dera Sahib, Lahore afterwards.  Every year thousands of devotees attend the Parkash Divas celebrations at Nankana Sahib, and also visit the various Gurdwara Sahib across West Punjab and the neighboring states.

Nankana Sahib, also known as Raipur and Rai-Bhoi-di-Talwandi is a small town in the Pakistani province of Punjab with a population of almost 60,000. The town is located about 75 kilometres west of Lahore and is one of the most sacred sites in the Sikh religion.

The town has nine gurdwaras including the Gurdwara Janam Asthan which marks the birth place of Guru Nanak Dev Sahib Ji. Each of the gurdwaras is related with important events in Guru Nanak Dev Ji's life. Annually, approximately 25,000 Sikh pilgrims visit the town, with about 15,000 gathering during the peak season around the Parkash Divas celebrations.

FATEHJANG: The Fatehjang police have registered a fraud case against a person for issuing a cheque that was dishonoured by the concerned bank.

Masloom Shah, a resident of Hattar village, alleged that he purchased a car from Zahoor Elahi, a resident of Fatehjang, but returned the vehicle because of erroneous documents.

On demand, the seller presented Mr Shah a cheque for Rs350,000 that bounced.

ATTOCK: Two persons were killed and five others injured in road accidents in Fatehjang, police said. {mosimage} Two persons - Azhar Mehmood and Abdul Majeed - were killed when their car crashed into a tree after the driver lost control of the vehicle near Dehma bus stop on Fatehjang-Rawalpindi road.

Three other occupants of the car - Zafar Iqbal, Inam and Ahmed Nawaz - sustained multiple injuries and were shifted to the Tehsil Headquarters (THQ) hospital in Fatehjang. Two persons - Sajid and Sakhi Khan - were injured in a collision between two rickshaws in Fatehjang.

HAZRO: At least seven persons were killed and a child was injured in a road accident near GT Road Hattian here Sunday, police said.

A Toyota Corolla, 2-D car No 8650, carrying eight family members collided with a bus near GT-road Hattian when by chance the car's bonnet opened all of a sudden.

In the mishap, seven persons, including two women, died on the spot while a child received multiple injuries.

Motorway police rushed to the site and shifted the child to a nearby hospital for medical help.

ATTOCK: Punjab Chief Minister Ch. Pervaiz Ellahi Sunday inaugurated a road project leading from Qutba to Teen Mila at Kamra to provide better travelling facilities to the people of the area.

The road project would be completed at a cost of Rs 363 million. Besides others, Pakistan Aeronautical Complex Chairman Kamra, Air Marshall Khalid Chaudary, District Nazim Attock Major (Retd)

The inauguration function was attended by MDs Mahraj Rebuild Factory, Aircraft Manufacturing Factory and other senior officials.

The 10-kilometer long road project would have four lanes. Some 8,000 vehicles would ply daily on the road and at least 0.5 million people would avail the transportation facility after the completion of the project.

ATTOCK: Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Chairwoman Benazir Bhutto is unaware of the political ground{mosimage} realities in Pakistan, Chief Minister (CM) Pervaiz Elahi said on Sunday.

He was addressing a public meeting at Fateh Jhang, Attock district. He said the Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid-e-Azam (PML-Q) would defeat the PPP in the general elections.

He said Benazir was creating an impression that the international community supported her. He said the people knew that she had said nuclear scientist Dr Abdul Qadeer Khan would be handed over to international agencies and foreign troops

ATTOCK KHURD: Deposed Chief Justice of Pakistan Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry on Friday declaring{mosimage} that he is still the Chief Justice said that he salutes all those Judges who have not taken oath under illegal and unconstitutional PCO.

"I am still the legal Chief Justice of Pakistan", Deposed Chief Justice of Pakistan Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry expressed these views in a telephonic address to Journalists of Attock on Friday.

Chief Justice of Pakistan Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry said that the treatment meted out to the Judges of the SC and HC after Proclamation of Emergency is incompatible.

 PPP Minority Wing (Rawalpindi) organiser and candidate of MNA for minority reserved seat, Rohail Ishtiaq has condemned the massive crackdown at the residences of PPP workers.

In a statement issued here Thursday, he said no one could stop PPP workers form attending public meeting of PPP at Liaquat Bagh today (November 9). He said police raided at his home previous night and intimidated his family members in his absence.

Police and other law-enforcement personnel launched a crackdown across the country on Sunday, apparently fearing a large-scale protest campaign against imposition of emergency. Opposition politicians, prominent lawyers and rights activists were detained in large numbers in several cities and towns of the country.

In Attock, police detained PML-N city president and UC naib nazim Dr Sheikh Waseem and city vice-president Dr Sheikh Waseem Saddique.
